Today we welcome Deacon Mike Edwards, a representative of Passionist Overseas Missions. His visit to our parish is in conjunction with our participation in the Annual Mission Cooperative Program for the Diocese of Covington.

Most Missions offer a four-fold program of education, health, economic development and communication organization to the people they serve. They work to break the cycle of poverty, illness and educational deprivation and substitute a willingness to learn and progress. You can assist them in the endeavors.
Kindly give your attention to Deacon Edwards’ important appeal and please be generous as your circumstances allow when the second collection is take at Mass today.

We welcome Allan Frederick to our parish. He arrived last Tuesday and will be spending some of the summer with us. Allan is discerning a call to priesthood for the Diocese of Covington. We wish him well and pray that God will provide guidance during his discernment.
What if God does care about what I wear to church? If the answer to the question is “Yes” it is important that for us to ask: Have we become too casual about our attire and attendance at Mass? Perhaps we think “it doesn’t matter.” The truth is that it does matter! “Sunday best” seems to have lost its meaning. Perhaps if we saw our attire and attendance at Mass as giving back to God, we might see that “dressing up” is the least we can do for God. Dressing up is also a nonverbal way of showing our children that our church is an important place. The church is God’s house. And Mass is an important event for we do this in memory of Jesus who died for me.

Forming Good Stewards: The seventy two disciples, that Jesus sent in thirty six directions were amazed at their success. Did they really have faith in Jesus as they left on their mission? We can almost hear them grumbling, “He is sending us like lambs among wolves with no money, no provisions, no sandals, and we cannot even greet people on the way. Does he expect us to work miracles?”
But off they went. And they performed miracles. Despite their doubts, they had faith in Jesus and they were able to do great things because of their faith. When we feel called to step out in faith to imitate Jesus in our world, do we have doubts? Do we fail to act because of our doubts? Or do we act, despite our doubts, amazed at what we can accomplish when we have faith in Jesus? As a result of our Baptism it is our responsibility to nurture our faith in Jesus so we can constantly be amazed at what we can accomplish in His name. FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
