RENAISSANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS

ACCELERATED READING AND ACCELERATED MATH

St. Edward School students have access to the Accelerated Reading and Math Programs, as well as the Math Facts in a Flash Program. The students are assessed through the STAR Reading, STAR Math, and the STAR Early Literacy Programs. By utilizing these online programs students at St. Edward School are given the opportunity to progress at their own level beyond the concepts being taught in the classroom in a more independent setting. We are extremely proud to offer these instructional academic and assessment programs to our students.

ACCELERATED READING

Students are given the opportunity to read and test on a variety of books within a certain reading range, as determined by their score on the STAR Reading Test and STAR Early Literacy Test. Individual teachers set quarterly goals of points accumulated for each grade. A "reading activity" grade is averaged into the total grade for the quarter reflecting the degree of success each student has had with achieving his/her reading goal. Students accumulate points by passing comprehension tests on the books they read. The Student Council, under the guidance of the teachers and staff, set school wide rewards for reaching a certain number of accumulated points. This school year individual points are exchanged for "play" money and students are given the opportunity each month to "spend their money". Students may certify in different levels of achievement within the Accelerated Reading Program and are recognized with certificates at the end of each month.
