What I like about St. Edward School …
In preparation for Catholic Schools Week 2010 St. Edward students participated in an essay writing contest. The winner from each grade level is presented below.
Sydney, a kindergarten student, wrote: When I entered the school door, I feel “happy.” I like going to school. There are many fun things to do like recess, doing homework, or reading books. We pray at school. Jesus is so good. My favorite part of the school year was the Christmas play. We all sang!
Hailey, of the first grade, wrote: I like St. Edward School because we learn about God. I have a lot of friends. At St. Edward’s we do some fun things like Pumpkin Olympics. St. Edward School means a special place to me.
Payton, a second grade student, wrote: St. Edward is a fun cool school to me. We have a good principal, good teachers and good friends. We get to go on fun field trips that are cool. Mrs. Cline is a good cook. All my teachers are good and everybody here at St. Edward and our God is the greatest. I thank my parents for picking my school that I belong to. Everything here I love.
Kyle, of the third grade, wrote: To me St. Edward School is the best school ever. I like all my teachers and staff because they are all kind. I have all kinds of friends at school and we all play together well. I love my new playground. Sometimes Mrs. Henson let’s us go outside and we like to play hot box and baseball. We have taken some really cool field trips to the apple orchard and the zoo. My favorite subjects are Science and Social Studies. Mrs. Cline makes the best hamburgers and soup. I like it when we have grandparents and parents come eat with us.
Dillon, in the fourth grade, wrote: This is what I like about St. Edward School. I like that we are the only Catholic School in Harrison County. I like it because it helps us get smart and it will help us get closer to a college education. And I really like our new teacher Ms. Hyatt. I also like my school because we get to go to church every day and learn about Jesus giving us his life for us. I also like that we have computer class. I also enjoy that we have P.E. every day. Even though the school is small it’s huge in my heart. The food here is good. My favorite thing to eat is her chili. It is the boom. I like our new principal. Fr. Doug is the best priest ever. He really knows how to preach. My favorite subjects are Math, Science, Reading and Religion. I also like us going to the gym and playing basketball. I’m going to miss the day I leave St. Edward School. I really have some good friends here. I think other kids should come to our school. Trust me you will have a great time at St. Edward School. We do all kinds of fun stuff like we have Catholic Schools Week. We have Halloween parties. We celebrate your birthday party with cake or cupcakes. You will like coming and eating Mrs. Cline’s food. We hope we have as many people as we can.
Abby, in the fifth grade, wrote: What I like about St. Edward School is because there are a lot of kids. I like how much P.E. we get. I like Religion because I like to read about Jesus. I like the people who are here. They are nice to me. When I get hurt they take care of me. My teacher is Ms. Hyatt. She is a nice teacher. Ms. Hyatt helps me when I get stuck on something like Math. My worst subject is Math. My best subject is Spelling. I like Spelling because you get to learn new words. Mrs. Cline has good food. I like her pizza. It is very good! What I like about P.E. is you get to talk to your friends and play basketball. I like our principal. She is very nice.

CSW update The Alumni Association kicked off Catholic Schools Week by hosting our Alumni Appreciation Days & Homecoming on January 30 & 31. Garnett Furnish, Class of 1967, and Brian Witajewski, Class of 1990, shared their memories and the lessons taught to them at St. Edward with the congregation at the end Mass.
On Monday, Feb. 1, alumnus Fr. Chris Clay celebrated Mass with the students. He ate lunch and engaged the students in a question and answer period after lunch. In response to “What is your favorite dance?” Fr. Chris skillfully performed the “moon walk.” The students thought it was great!
On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the fifth grade students attended the Diocesan CSW Mass held at the Cathedral. Bishop Foys presided. On their way home, the students enjoyed lunch and some video games at Barleycorn’s, Cold Spring.
Make plans to join us for our Alumni Homecoming on January 29 & 20, 2011!
new leadership model: After discussion with Michael Clines, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Covington, Fr. Doug Lauer announced to the Board of Total Catholic Education and the faculty that we try a different approach to administration for next school year. Diocesan policy states that schools with less than eight teachers do not need a principal. A Lead teacher is suggested as the way of managing a school. Weighing the pros and cons of this approach it was determined that we try a different approach for 2010-2011. At this time, the Lead Teacher has not been selected. We are happy to announce that Mrs. Jeanette Henson has been hired as our part time administrative assistant. She will manage the day to day paper work, reports, student and office files, and many other functions. Mrs. Henson has worked with our school for a number of years. Hunter, her son, is an alumnus of the Class of 2010. Please keep this intention in your prayers as we work our way through this new
leadership model.

100 years from now … Would someone reading your will be able to tell that you were a Christian? If there is any writing that would indicate what the most important things in our lives are, it most certainly should be our Last Will and Testament.
In it, we would naturally expect to find mentioned those people - family or friends - who for whatever reasons were the most significant people on earth to us.
We would likewise expect to find mentioned any institution or organization that was especially significant or important to us in some way.
For a Christian, it would seem certain that the Church and her ministries would be on our special list. If not, something must have gone wrong somewhere, or maybe we just didn't think about it. Whatever the case, now would be a good time to think about it.

F.Y.I. In our recent past St. Edward School has benefitted much by being included in the last will and testament of parishioners. These estates have been used for building repairs and paying off deficit years. The result is that our parish has no money in savings. Please consider leaving your legacy to St. Edward School.
